I’ve been photographing this family for many years. I still can’t predict how the photos will turn out or which will be my favorite. You can plan plan plan, but with kids, it can all go out the window. The best photos are usually the most spontaneous, anyway.

The few blocks radius around where you live, those familiar sights you pass everyday, multiple times a day, that you never stopped to really consider or notice - the colors, the textures, the shapes - these are the places that I love. Somehow families always seem to fit so seamlessly in their immediate environments.

What you don’t see in these photos - the thousands of tiny green insects swarming the air, landing in hair, mouths and eyes, threatening to thwart our plans and ruin the session. I’d say we held up pretty well.

Every so often I double check to make sure all my file storage processes are in working order. I randomly select folders and files and make sure everything is where it should be. I usually check personal files - videos of my kids when they were toddlers, etc. More often than not, this leads to an hour or so of relishing nostalgic moments. I highly recommend. Do you have a thirteen year old in the house? Go back and look at photos when they were 5. You’re welcome.
