I love to try and really hone in on the personality of kids when I'm out with them and editing photos. This is particularly fun with siblings as you can see their unique (and often opposing personalities) side by side. Can you pick out the sister who is a bit more serious and reserved from her irreverent and silly counterpart? Sometimes it's subtle, but it's amazing how much you can understand about a kid in just an hour or so. And here's a glimpse of this pair from last year.
New Yorkers love Navy Blue | brooklyn family photographer
Probably the most popular color worn by families I photograph. Somewhat classic, looks great against the green of the park.
Evening light in Prospect Park | brooklyn child photographer
I shoot in the mornings quite a bit. Kids are usually up early and at their freshest so why not, right? On the rare occasion I get to photograph in the lovely hour before sunset. The light is a bit magical then. Often it interferes with bedtimes, especially in the summer, but if it works out, it's my favorite time of day to hold a session.
Bag full of tricks | brooklyn family photographer
Have you been to the Zucker Exploration Area in Prospect Park? Go. And if that wasn't enough to captivate these kiddos, mom and dad came prepared with lots of fun things to play with during the shoot - pinwheels, bubbles, eggs filled with confetti and to finish things off, a stop at the farmer's market for some cider doughnuts.
Two shoots in one | new york newborn photographer
What do I do during a newborn shoot when the baby is being fed, changed or is otherwise occupied? If there are siblings around, there's opportunity to focus the camera on them. No siblings? Stuffed animals do in a pinch. When you're not looking, I might also raid your kitchen for Oreos. Heh, heh, you know you have some hidden somewhere.
