We held this session In the morning haze of sun, along the beautiful banks of the Gowanus. Some day this whole area will be turned inside out, redeveloped, cleaned up. Not sure if I'll like it better that way.
After Brooklyn | new york family photographer
Porches, yards, stairs, spacious rooms…what does an ex-Brooklyn family do with all this square footage?
The light in Gowanus | brooklyn photographer
At this time of day, the sun reflects off the canal and bounces the most beautiful light into the air. I do love the gritty industrial environment, the colors and textures, but more than that I love the light. For this session, I played with shooting through things again - LED lights, prisms, a plastic bag, and also experimented with double exposures. I pulled out my 24mm which had been collecting dust this past year. It's a tricky but exceedingly fun lens to use with portraits. This was also the first time in a long time that I worked with a single subject. This girl has confidence pulsing through her veins. I'm thankful to have carved out time to work on these personal projects. Good for the spirit. My next adventure - analog - bring out the film!
His little world floors up | nyc family photographer
These are the rooms where most of his life is spent. Interesting right? When a newborn arrives the world becomes so small. The intimate spaces a few feet around where the baby is sleeping or eating or tummy timing become the entire world.
Carroll Gardens in July | brooklyn family photographer
When the leaves are this green and lush (thanks buckets of rain!) the browns of the buildings really pop. It's hot out for sure, but July in the city is awfully pretty.
